About Me

Hello, my name is Shraddha. I am a visual artist based in BC, Canada, working from a spare room in my apartment that has become my humble studio.

My creative journey began in animation filmmaking, where I learned character development and storytelling. In 2012, I went on to study traditional art at a visual arts school and earned my diploma. Unfortunately, I never got to work in either industry. Instead, I spent several years as a graphic artist for tech and product development companies, and the skills I had honed stayed tucked away in my sketchbooks and side projects, waiting for its turn.

In 2024, things took a little pause. A steady career took a hit, and in that same tender window of time, I lost my beloved dad. Grief has a way of stripping things back to what actually matters. For me, that was painting. The kindest humans around me made it possible in the most literal sense. They showed up with paints, canvases, and tripods, and quietly told me to keep going. So here I am.

About My Work

My process is a mix of both digital and traditional art, shaped by everything I learned along the way. I begin with a storyboard, sketching out each concept and developing a character. From there, I refine the idea digitally until it feels complete. Only then I move to canvas, using that digital reference to guide the final oil painting.

Each piece carries a small story within it, whether it is a farmyard animal living an ordinary human life or a quieter study of something I noticed in the everyday.

I work with premium quality oil paints and pigment sticks, paired with non-toxic mediums like natural oils and beeswax. I love how these materials perform on the canvas, the rich texture, the depth, and the way they let colour build up in layers you can almost feel. Beyond that, knowing my materials are gentle rather than harsh feels like an extension of the care I put into every piece.
